About The Artist
My name is Richard Frederick Barber, B A. SLC Hons, in Fine Arts. I was bornin Windsor in the U.K. in 1942,. I\'m a member of the Shenyang & Liaoning
Institute of Fine Arts and I have a studio in Anshan City where I now live,
in Anshan City, in the Northern Province of Liaoning China, and I'm also a
Guild member of the Artrom Gallery Guild where I won membership with a
landscape Painting "The Mundons" which took fist place in an international
New landscape 2007 Competition. I work mainly in oils, but do sometimes work
in other mediums such as watercolor and acrylic.
I have in the past worked in encaustic's and I have also sculpted in wood,
stone (marble, Portland stone ) ,clay and flour dough
I do not stick to any one particular subject as I think the artist
should try and expand their knowledge, not only in subject matter, but also
in their style and medium they work in.
I class myself as a realistic painter but not in the sense
as to be ultra realistic, all of my art is original art with no prints so the buyer knows they are buying a one off with no repeats I also have no wish to be photographic, I feel that one should leave something for the viewers eyes and mind to interpret, the point where the viewer's eyes and mind takeover and create their own mood and feelings in relation to the artwork. As each painting creates it's own mood, and a different meaning to different people. I paint landscape s, seascapes, figurative,(nude ) portraits, and still life, sometimes I do some surrealist works.
While I was in the U.K. I exhibited at the \"Mall Galleries\" in London,
The Royal Academy of Fine Art, The Birmingham Fine Art Gallery, The Cutt
Gallery , London The CRA in St Albans, and other small galleries in and
around London. Some of my work can now be seen on (http://www.saatchi-
gallery.co.uk/yourgallery/artist/details php?id=7827) the website of The
Saatchi Gallery in London, www.artistbank.com, www.artremains.com,
www.painterskeys.com and other online galleries.)
I now feel privileged living in China, where there is a
wealth of artist both in the traditional Chinese style and all of the western
styles of art, (Classical , Modern Contemporary, and Surrealist). I feel that
art brings out the best in people and that we can learn a lot from the Chinese
regarding art. In my art I try to make it a pleasant and enjoyable journey in
to the inner mind for the viewer, leaving them in a pleasant and tranquil
mood, as all art should be viewed and absorbed like a good book, one that
makes the mind wander through it\'s pages far away from the trials and
tribulations of everyday life, into that other world.
I hope you enjoy my art. Please enjoy your visit and your journey.
Once again thank you for viewing my site.
